Trouble with Workbook Links

Hello.

I have a corporate cost estimate Excel book that I am required to use that then would get transferred into a web based Project management software. This workbook has macros, however most PMs didn't use these macros and it wasnt enforced by anyone.

Our former intern figured out a way to update the workbook with additional macros to make importing into the browser tool super simple. He created it on his local drive and then copied it into a shared drive for all PMs to save copies of and use. Now new personnel are in positions are requiring we use the original macros but we still need to use the intern's added features, which unfortunately dont run because of a Workbook link error referencing the original file location. Too much time has passed there is no way to access the original file the intern created.

I cant break the Link as it disables the original macros. I am not even sure why the initial file / location is important / why cant copies function on their own.

Thank you.
