EU confirms ban on destroying unsold clothes, will this actually reduce waste?

The EU has confirmed that from July 2026, large companies won’t be allowed to destroy unsold clothing and footwear. Medium-sized companies follow in 2030.

They’re also introducing a Digital Product Passport showing materials, environmental impact, and recyclability via QR code.

Apparently, 4–9% of unsold apparel in Europe is destroyed every year.

Good move? Or will brands just overproduce less, or find loopholes?
