Excel alternatives for basic student work.

I’m a student on Linux with an older laptop, so Excel isn’t really an option. Most of my work is simple formulas, sorting, light formatting, and sharing files with people who use Excel. I’ve tried LibreOffice but it feels slow on my setup. How close is WPS Spreadsheets to Excel in everyday use? Any quirks or compatibility issues to be aware of?
