What's up with dumping chickens ?

I've been on this sub for several months and I see recurrent posts about someone finding dumped chickens.

What is this? Why would someone do it?

I live in Ukrainian village and if you don't want a chicken for some reason, you either eat it or give it to your neighbours. Anyway no chicken would survive a night before getting eaten by predators.
