Is there an easy way to number rows based on the value of another?

I've got a sheet with 2500 rows, can I quickly number the rows from 1-x based on another column?

Example

A B

1 john

2 john

3 john

4 john

1 kyle

2 kyle

3 kyle

4 kyle

5 kyle
