Dandruff Shampoos give me better waves and volume

I get more defined waves and root volume when I use dandruff shampoos, such as Nizoral/Selsun, but am unable to replicate it when using other shampoos (even curl shampoos). I have low porosity 2B hair, using dandruff shampoos make it seem like 2C and gives me way more volume at the roots and I like the way my hair ends up looking.

My routine when I use dandruff shampoo: nirzoral/selsun, dove hair mask as conditioner, wash 2x, air dry. I usually do this once a week while I alternate other shampoos during other washes.

Does anyone have any idea why this happens and what I can infer about my hair type from this? What this means for my haircare routine and what I should look for in shampoos to get similar results?

Thank you!!
