Accidentally booked my return ticket to Japan during Golden Week

I was solo traveling in Tokyo last September and decided to finally return home (NYC) so I booked a round trip as it was less expensive than one way. Randomly chose April 22nd and now as I’m looking to book hotels in Tokyo/Kyoto and also a flight out to Okinawa- I realized some uptick in prices and less options. Now I see it’s because of the holiday, oops. Will it be a really crazy uncomfortable busy time? It’s a very lively city usually and I prefer to not visit anywhere during huge events as it makes it more challenging to get into restaurants or simply navigating the streets.

I know it’s not my city to complain but should I be maybe trying less popular cities outside the centers? Will everything be more expensive even in the shops? Or will this be exciting and lots of people celebrating with strangers? Or is it something where trains are scheduled less and places closed? What can I anticipate with this specific week? More exciting energy or more exhausting days?
