First time chicken owner!

| Hello! First time chicken owner here. Just looking to see what people think. This is my setup. It’s 32 degrees under the heat lamp and gradually decreases as you come towards the end of the tub. It’s actually quite large. The chicks are all around a week old, but I just picked them up from the breeder yesterday. I have one water setup further from the heat source and one closer, then I just have the one feeder plus 2 little covers with mashed starter/water in it for them! I also added a few little things in hopes they won’t get too bored as they get older. I did notice 2-3 of them had pasty butt, I cleaned as well as i could and returned them. But I’m not sure yet if it’s from my setup, or the previous setup plus the stress of travelling. So they have lots of option for heat, lots of option for food and water and a few little fun things in there when they become interested. Does this seem like an okay setup? Should I be concerned about the pasty butt yet, or just wait and see if it returns? It makes me anxious since it stresses them out to clean them! I have done a lot of research but it’s nice to hear directly from peoples experiences. Please be kind ☺️ TIA for any advice/input. ☺️ just want to make sure I’m in the right direction and avoid any preventative issues. (PS. I have a brooder plate on the way and a large dog crate I could use if this setup isn’t sufficient, just not sure what I prefer yet) [link] [comments] |
