Is this hormones or something more sinister.
My Easter Egger disappeared last Friday and just showed up 30 minutes ago acting like she was on bath salts. I have a small line of woods behind my house and have occasionally caught them trying to lay. If I find a nest, I collect eggs and all is good. I have never had a bird return after this long. A fox or coyote normally get them. She is literally bananas and acting neurologic. She is gorging on food but darting around like a tom turkey puffing up and dragging wings, screeching at me, the goats, and randomly screaming for no reason. She hasn't gone back in the woods yet but has the rest of the flock all in a tizzy. Anyone ever experienced this with an incredibly broody hen? Just watched her dart away and screech but nothing was near her. She is ambulatory so I think I can rule out Mareks.
