Edinburgh and the highlands- august

Scotland this summer

Hi! I'm from Portugal, and I'm thinking of visiting Scotland (Edinburgh and the Highlands) this summer, at the end of August. Do you think it's worth it? I'm a little worried about the midges. Does that make the trip so unpleasant? And what about the festival in Edinburgh? Is it still possible to enjoy the city even with all the crowds?
