Orient Overseas Container Line has named its first methanol dual-fuel container vessel, OOCL Wisdom, which is currently the world’s largest ship of its kind.

The naming ceremony took place on May 8, 2026, at the shipyard of Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co., Ltd. in Nantong City, Jiangsu Province, eastern China.

The vessel is expected to be delivered in June.

OOCL Wisdom is the first vessel in a series of seven methanol dual-fuel container ships being built for OOCL.

The vessel has a maximum capacity of 24,168 TEU. According to the company, all of its main engines, auxiliary engines and boilers are fitted with methanol dual-fuel systems.

The ship also includes energy-efficiency management systems, intelligent monitoring systems and safety assurance systems.

The completion of the vessel is a major step for China in the design and construction of ultra-large clean-energy ships.

During the ceremony, Ms. Cao Yanping, Director of Fujian Yaohua Industrial Village Development Co., Ltd., officially named the vessel and offered blessings for its future voyages in the presence of guests attending the event.

OOCL Chief Executive Officer Mr. Tao Weidong said the delivery of OOCL Wisdom will strengthen the company’s fleet and improve its vessel technology.

He said the vessel also shows OOCL’s commitment to green and low-carbon development, digital intelligence and sustainability.

He added that the delivery of large and energy-efficient vessels like OOCL Wisdom would help the company improve fleet performance and expand a cleaner and more efficient shipping network.

Mr. Tao also said the vessels would help OOCL provide safer, more reliable and more sustainable logistics services for global trade.

Orient Overseas Container Line, headquartered in Hong Kong, is one of the world’s major container transportation and logistics companies.

The company operates around 130 offices in more than 100 cities across Asia, Europe, the Americas, Africa and Oceania.
