San Pedro to Uyuni and back 4D/3N - Normal route or reverse
Hello,
As the title suggests, we are traveling from San Pedro to Uyuni and back to San Pedro on a 4D/3N tour. We have got a flight from Calama on the evening of the last day. We were given 2 options.
Option 1 - Do the normal route of visiting the lagoons first and the Salt flats at the end and returning back to Uyuni. With this option we were told that we would need to start at 4:30 am on the last day to make it back to Calama on time for our 7 pm flight. Also, with this option, our first night will be in the Huayllajara refugios and our next two nights will be in good hotels like Palacio De Sal and Casa De Sal on the last night.
Option 2 - This is the exact reverse of Option 1 with heading for the Salt flats first and then doing the lagoons next before going back to San Pedro. We were told that we would not need to start at 4:30 am with this as our last night will be at Huayllajara refugios and our first night will be at Casa De Sal.
Apart from the waking up part on the last day, with Option 1 we go from an altitude of ~2400m in San Pedro to ~4500m on the first night before descending. And with option 2, it's a gradual ascent given that the Uyuni and the Casa De Sal are at a lower altitude than the altiplanic lagoons and the refugios accommodation. So I was thinking that this will be more gradual.
Which option would be better, taking into account, the convenience, altitude acclimatization and the experience itself? All advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
