Is getting clothes custom stitched actually cheaper than buying ready-made?

I have been wondering about this lately because ready-made clothes keep getting more expensive, especially when you want decent fabric and a good fit. A few people told me that buying fabric separately and getting clothes stitched by a tailor can sometimes cost less overall, especially for basic everyday outfits.

But I’m not sure if that’s actually true in real life or if it only works in certain cases. On one hand, custom stitching sounds better because you can choose the exact fabric, fit, and design you want. On the other hand, fabric costs, tailoring charges, and small adjustments can probably add up pretty fast, too.

I’m mostly curious about normal clothing, not luxury or designer stuff. Things like Kurtis, dresses, shirts, pants, or simple ethnic wear.

For people who regularly get clothes stitched:

  • Is it actually cheaper for you?
  • Does the quality last longer?
  • And do you think the fit makes it more worth it compared to ready-made clothes?

Would love to hear real experiences because I’m trying to figure out which option gives better value long term.
