Travel ideas for June from Los Angeles = Quiet + Nature

Hi all, I am in Los Angeles and trying to plan a week or so getaway for my husband and I in mid to late June. We are open to basically anywhere that is:

  • Within an 8-9 hour flight from Los Angeles (we would like to leave CA)
  • Quiet and close to nature with access to water for canoeing/casual fishing
  • Prefer moderate weather over super hot
  • Don't really care about "nightlife"
  • Would prefer to stay in a more private place (like an Airbnb or cabin, vs. a hotel)
  • Flights for two no more than ~$2k total round trip

I have been doing a bunch of chaotic research, and we've considered everything from Utah (decided we don't want to go to another desert climate) to Shenandoah Valley Virginia (crowded and buggy in June, it seems) to... Austrian Alps (long flight and flight costs are insane). So I have decided to come here, because I feel like I'm just spinning my finger on a globe at this point.

Some of our favorite trips that have met this desired vibe have been to beautiful small towns in Maine and Vermont and the Jacques Cartier National Forest in Canada. We're cool with renting a car.

OK don't roast me too hard, thank you!
