General Guidelines to Minimizing Clothing Footprint?

Found out about this as I was listening to an older episode of Hot Takes (I think they are not longer live). I hope I'm not oversimplifying, but is it a matter of buying the highest quality of stuff and washing them properly so that the clothes last as long as possible while polluting as little as possible? I know it's a mouthful.
