Learning Makeup as a Guy

32 M and have been looking to start using makeup for a while. I have watched several tutorials online but still feel very overwhelmed and am not sure where to start. I was thinking about going to Sephora and explaining my situation to an employee and asking what products they would recommend for a basic face then buying a dozen or so products.

Is this a good way to get into makeup? Or what products would you all recommend for a basic face???
