Self drive car / scooty in Coonoor -

We are planning a 4 day trip to Coonoor Ooty and Kotagiri. We will fly in to Coimbatore and drive to Coonoor. Wanted to know if there are any trusted leads for renting a self drive car or scooty from Coimbatore or in Coonoor itself. We do not want to go around in a cab.

Also is a self drive car recommended there or are cabs safer? Please let us know if anyone has been to Coonoor and how did you manage the intercity travel!
