How do I choose between woven and printed labels for garments?
A couple of days ago I was developing branding concepts of a small clothing project and became stuck because of one simple question, should I be using woven labels or printed ones? Initially, I considered them to be roughly the same thing but after researching on it, I came to find out that they do not produce the same results at all.
Stitched labels are more luxurious and durable as the design is woven into the textile. They tend to be more effective with clothing with high frequency of washing such as jackets or daily wear. Printed labels, however, are more pliable and soft and this makes them a good option in light weight garments where the comfort is paramount as compared to durability.
As I was researching various suppliers via the internet, including those on Alibaba, I noticed that most of the manufacturers suggest using woven labels with brand-oriented products and printed labels with low-cost or casual clothing lines.
As I have come to understand, the selection is quite a matter of balance - comfort vs longevity and brand feel.
Yet to be determined, but now I realize the extent of influence a small label can cause on the garment itself.
