Shade for Chickens

So we got some Buff Orpington chicks here in California, and I read that they don't do well in heat. They have a very nice chicken coop, and I'm fencing in an area for them to be safe in, but I want to give them shade in the fenced in area since heat is so hard on them. It can get very windy here, so whatever the solution is, it has to withstand some strong winds. (A tarp, for example, probably won't cut it. I don't want something terribly expensive, either.

Any ideas?
