Excel + SharePoint Collaboration Issues with Multiple Users – Need Urgent Fix

Hi everyone,

I urgently need help. I’m presenting an Excel solution tomorrow and during testing today I realized that simultaneous usage is causing major issues.

What it’s about:
I have an Excel file that multiple people should work in interactively (simple inputs, checkboxes, dropdowns). This file displays utilization/workload data that is pulled from a separate Excel file. That second file contains raw data from a tool export; the export gets overwritten regularly and the data is loaded into the main file via connection/query.

Both Excel files are currently stored in SharePoint. Everyone opens the files using their organizational account.

As soon as multiple users are active at the same time, we get issues like:

- “Reopen workbook – some changes could not be merged”
→ sometimes works, sometimes Excel freezes and loads forever

- “Upload blocked / locked items”
→ changes cannot be saved, only “Save a Copy” or “Discard Changes”

I absolutely need to get this running reliably by tomorrow. Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this or how to solve it properly?

There is also a traditional network drive available where the raw data could be stored, if that would help.

Thanks a lot!
