Why are handcrafted shawls so expensive?

Handmade shawls are costly due to the many hours, techniques, and specific efforts required to craft them. The raw materials used to create handcrafted shawls are high-quality and typically include wool, silk, and pashmina rather than low-cost synthetics, which contributes significantly to their overall cost.

Unlike machine-made shawls, handcrafted shawls are produced one at a time by creating lots of similar shawls (generally referred to as a "batch"). The lengthy creation process results in the item becoming more distinctive than mass-produced items of similar quality, as well as having a greater level of workmanship and labour involved in the making of the shawl itself.
