Travelling to Colima (city) Mexico

hi everyone, this might be a stupid question but i wanted peoples experiences and not the statistics as advice.

im a young woman (early 20s) and im currently planning a world travel trip for next year, im already planning to go to brazil, argentina and mexico city, but i really wanna go to Colima (the city) my grandparents lived there when they were younger and my grandma always spoke about how much she loved the city, i have many of her paintings of the city hanging in my apartment and it looks incredibly beautiful, ive always wanted to go and see it.

but while i was researching i found out that the city isnt very safe, and obviously as a young woman travelling, i need to make sure its safe for me to go there.

does anyone here have any experience of the city?
