Proposal Ideas &Trip to Colorado/ First Time Flying

I guess this is more of a few questions involving general advice and activities question on top of proposal ideas. My gf (29F) and I (33M) have been together for about 2.5 years. For my 34th, we're flying out to Durango, staying in Silverton. I had a custom ring made and plan to propose. During one of the days in Silverton, we're doing a nearby hike up to a dinosaur fossil foot trail (2 miles approx) and my initial plan was to propose there. Other trip excursions are checking out local hot springs, and a day trip back to Durango.

Other info:

• Trip is June 4th - June 8th

- she is starting to get suspicious about me as I've been acting weird lately about hiding the ring and telling very select people, so I think she has an idea it's coming

- it's my first time flying ever

- renting a car. No ubers/lyfts

- both slightly out of shape. Shin splints for her, sciatica for me.

A few questions:

- Is my proposal site a good idea? Has anyone done that hike?

- Does anyone recommend somewhere else nearby?

- How do I properly hide the ring/ keep it safe during travel on 2 separate flights?

- What is there to do for 2 geeks/nerds, one of which doesn't drink (me) in Durango for my actual birthday?
