War history, hands-on tours, and amazing food?
We want to take our son on a trip next summer (anytime from June through August) to celebrate his high school graduation. We live in the Midwest (USA) and are willing to take him anywhere in the world, but are limited to 10 days. I started researching, but got overwhelmed quickly.
I’m looking for destination recommendations that would be a good combination of his interests below…
War
- history
: EDIT: Specifically, WWI - Vietnam. He especially loves military planes and tanks. This is #1 on his list, but he doesn’t want the whole trip to be centered around it.
Hands
-on tours and
/or
- outdoor exploration
: For example… C
- offee plantation
tour where you get to help
roast
th
e beans. Or hiking to ancient ruins and swimming in the nearby cenotes.
EDIT: Beautiful scenery/views: Mountains, beaches, forests, palm trees… doesn’t matter as long as it’s not just flat farm fields.
Food:
He has always been an extremely adventurous eater and genuinely appreciates good food. Our family vacations always include a food tour or visit to a unique restaurant.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions!
EDIT:
Thanks to everyone for all the great suggestions! He and I spoke a bit more tonight, and narrowed things down a bit.
He’s really into military planes and armored vehicles, so anything from WWI through Vietnam. He definitely wants to dive into the history, but he doesn’t want the entire trip to be centered around it. He wants a mix of history, exploring, and relaxing.
He also mentioned he wants beautiful scenery. He doesn’t care what, as long as it’s not the flat lawns and farm fields he’s used to looking at in the Midwest.
