where to stay in Singapore over Christmas?

So we are a family of 5 adults (kids grown up) and we need accommodation in Singapore between Dec 23 - Dec 26. Can't afford Marina Bay Sands. The rooms that take a booking for our 3 adult sons only have 2 single beds! (WTH??)

Anyway. I have narrowed down to Orchard Road. Is that the best place to stay over Christmas? Any other suggestions? We like local hawker food and Christmas lights.
