Is shaving body hair a must for using self-tanning mousse?

Man for reference with a lot of body hair... I bought some St. Tropez self-tanning mousse yesterday (and the face mist) and I read online that you should shave before using self-tanning mousse... do I need to clean shave my entire body or will trimming it down to a shorter length suffice? If shaving is truly a must I will do it, sometimes you have to make sacrifices.
