How do u know how to match shoes?

OK so I usually wear casual clothes and I've always struggles with knowing what colured shoes work with an outfit. I've always leaned with black shoes coz it seems 'safer', and avoid lighter coloured shoes coz they, in my mind are the opposite of safe but ik that's not true since light colours like white are neutral so should go with pretty much a lot of fits

On tiktok I came across the sandwich method where you should match the shoes with whatever coloured top you're wearing, ig that makes it easier

But even still, I know people match white shoes with different coloured tops other than light colours and STILL make it look good, so now I'm confused

Like even on Pinterest all my inpos are usually converses, uggs and full black shoes rather than white (mostly), ig I should look a other Pinterest photos rather than looking at it through a biased lense
