I’m taking advantage of Prime Day to pick up a cookbook that I added to my wishlist as soon as it was announced. Chef, author, and TV host (and my parasocial fave) Samin Nosrat followed up her James Beard Award-winning cookbook Salt Fat Acid Heat—which is also currently on sale—with this new tome of recipes and reflections that examine the reasons why we cook, and the little joys nourishing the bodies of both yourself and the people you love. –QL

I’m pleasantly surprised to see a number of my all-time favorite books on sale this Prime Day, including this stunner of a novel by Kazuo Ishiguro. While its dark, dystopian reality is revealed rather early on, if you’ve avoided learning much about this hit from 2005, I suggest you go in blind (and welcome the heartbreak). All you need to know is that it chronicles the friendships and dalliances between a trio who meet at an idyllic yet mysterious boarding school. With big questions about art, beauty, memory, and humanity, it’ll rip you open; consider it your perfect summertime sadness reading material. –SB

If you love historical fiction, I can’t stress enough how much you need to add The Nightingale to your cart. This 2015 Kristin Hannah novel soared to the top of bestseller lists upon its release—and a long-awaited movie adaptation starring sisters Dakota and Elle Fanning is finally due out next year. Set during World War II in Germany-occupied France, it follows two estranged sisters—one who is forced to house Nazi officers and another who joins the resistance—in a moving tale about survival and resilience. –SB

Admittedly, I already have my own well-loved copy of Octavia Butler’s most acclaimed novel, and I’ve gifted several copies to family and friends. That I’m about to pick up another four or five for future gifting shows how passionate I am in my mission to get everyone on the planet to read this harrowing sci-fi tale. Written in 1993, teenage Lauren Olamina’s coming-of-age in an era of constant wildfires and “Make America Great Again” politicians—sounds familiar?—is a testament to the power of collectivism in shaping the world we want to live in. –QL

Do you fashion yourself a fan of dark academia? Well, this is the dark academia novel—and it was published in 1992, long before the subgenre earned its namesake and became a publishing phenomenon. Donna Tartt’s literary fiction classic is set at the fictional New England liberal arts school, Hampden College, and unravels what led the intimate classics majors to become embroiled in the murder of one of their classmates. The characters and prose are delicious, it’s rich with literary reference, and you won’t be able to put it down until you figure out its inverted mystery. It’s one of my favorite books, so if you haven’t dived in yet, consider this a must-do. –SB

It’s been a minute since I’ve sunk my teeth into an engrossing celebrity memoir, so I’m ecstatic to see Cynthia Erivo’s debut memoir at such a great price. Just days before Wicked: Part 2 arrived in theaters, Erivo published this book of personal stories from a life of defying the odds and embracing her natural shine, even when others wanted her to shrink herself. Life has been…a bit of a lot, lately, but summer’s a perfect time to reinvigorate my year with the help of the award winner’s literary pep talk. –QL

Private chef/content creator Meredith Hayden shot to viral fame under the moniker Whisbone Kitchen, and all of the wisdom she acquired working for clients in the Hamptons and N.Y.C.—as well as her signature sunny attitude—comes together in her debut cookbook. It features ample 20-minute recipes for easy dinners, as well as elevated dishes to impress your dinner party guests. With their higher price tags, cookbooks are constantly on my wishlists, so I’ll absolutely be snagging this one now to make my summer cooking a whole lot easier. –SB

Once, I had a standard Kindle. I liked that Kindle. But I love the Paperwhite edition—no glare, no brightness, even if you're reading in the dark (how do they do that? I have no idea). It's the best digital imitation of a book, in my opinion, except that it doesn't feel digital, and you don't have to carry any books (it's literally 211 grams). –Jenny Hollander, Digital Director
