The U.S stepped up its military poture in West Asia as tensions with Iran remain high despite continuing diplomatic efforts.

According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), over 20 warships have been deployed in the region to ensure stability and prevent further attacks on commercial shipping as Washginton commits itself to secure the key maritime corridors amidst fears of renewed military action.

The latest deployment comes almost a month after U.S naval ships and aircraft coordinated an operation in the Arabian Sea.

The exercise which involved sailing and flying in militaryformation in what the CENTCOM called a display of “unmatched American military strength and firepower.” was meant to reassure allies and signal to Iran that U.S is prepared to respond to any threat against its interests.

The current deployment comes after U.S-Iran relations suffered a major setback following attacks on three commercial vessels in Hormuz, which U.S officials said were targeted by Iran since they tried to cross Hormuz via a route near Omani coast.

In response, U.S attacked over 80 key Iranian sites which led to the death of 8 personnel from the rmy’s air and naval forces.

Iran also targeted U.S military sites in Bahrain and Kuwait.

U.S President Trump who is in Turkiye for the annual NATO meeting said that the deal with Iran is over. He is also called the Iranian leadership ‘sick’.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) said that they targeted Iran’s civil infrastrcuture and warned Tehran of the heavy costs for attacking ships.

Iran has also said that it would take firm measures to protect its national security and has accused the U.S of violating the ceasefire agreement.

Speaking about the US attacks at the NATO summit in Ankara, President Donald Trump said the ceasefire and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Iran were effectively “over” and called the Iranian leadership ‘sick’.

Iran has blamed the U.S for creating disturbance in West Asia through its military presence and condemned the deployment of additional warships, arguing that Western forces contribute more to regional instability than security.

The Arabian Sea, Persian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz and Gulf of Oman are the focal points of the conflict, which has disrupted energy supply chains in the world, leading to inflation.
