The Indian Navy is serving as the Deputy Commander Task Force for Theatre-level Anti-Submarine Warfare at the RIMPAC 2026.

This is a historic first, marking a major milestone for India’s leadership in the world’s largest international maritime drill.

The Indian Navy’s contingent brings significant assets and responsibility to the multi-national mission, said experts.

The Indian Navy has deployed P-8I long-range maritime patrol aircraft and the stealth multi-role frigate INS Shivalik.

This shows India’s growing command in securing sea lanes and promoting a free, open, and rules-based Indo-Pacific.

In a statement, the Indian Navy said that its aircraft and contingent of personnel continue to engage with partner navies in mission planning, technical preparation, briefings and operational exchanges.

“This is the first time that the Indian Navy is discharging the role of Deputy Commander Task Force for Theatre-level Anti Submarine Warfare during the exercise,” the statement added.

RIMPAC 2026 involves more than 30 countries, 30 surface ships, 5 submarines, over 206 aircraft and 30,000 personnel training together in and around the Hawaiian Islands, to sharpen skills and interoperability.

RIMPAC 2026 is the 30th exercise in the series that began in 1971.
