I'm a Minimalist Fashion Editor—All My Chicest Summer Outfits Revolve Around This Extremely Elegant Colour

Me and black have a long history that began in my teenage goth years, when my wardrobe was a sea of distressed denim, leather jackets and highly impractical flatform boots. While my wardrobe has evolved considerably since then, the reason black plays such an integral part in it remains the same: buildability.

It's a word we hear often in the beauty space, but it applies to fashion too. Different textures, silhouettes and details can be brought together effortlessly with black in a way that's much harder to achieve with other colours.

And yet when summer arrives, we discard it in favour of brighter neutrals. Yes, black does absorb heat more than other colours, but with a curated selection of breathable fabrics and relaxed silhouettes it is possible to bring the head-turning impact of black into your summer wardrobe and stay cool. Think linen dresses with spaghetti straps, asymmetric necklines, sleek bralettes under oversized shirts and sheer, floating fabrics layered over lace.

So whether you're a long-time fan looking to work your favourite black pieces into your summer wardrobe, or are chasing that minimalist edge that can only be achieved with black, below are five looks that will give you all the inspiration you need. Read on to find out more.

All-Black Summer Outfits for 2026:

1. Asymmetric Top + Camo Skirt + Kitten Heels

Style Notes: Basics are where black does its hardest work. I'm a strong believer that all basics should be bought in both black and white, from t-shirts, shirts and vest tops to everything in between. @amaka.hamelijnck shows us why by teaming a simple asymmetric tank top with a camo print denim skirt. The tank allows the print to take centre stage but enhances it's edge and adds vintage noughties touch.

2. Scoop Bralette + Oversized Shirt + Sarouel Trousers

Style Notes: If traditional colour-blocking isn't for you, try adding one bright piece to an all-black look. The vibrant yellow adds more drama to the black pieces, while the structure of the shirt contrasts with the relaxed, undone feel of the sarouel trouser and bralette combo.

3. Tank Top + Tailored Bermuda Shorts + Mesh Ballet Flats

Influencer Santina Harrison wearing a black tank top, black tailored bermuda shorts, and mesh ballet flats.

Style Notes: Black and tailoring are a match made in heaven, so if you're looking to get on board the tailored Bermuda shorts trend, I recommend you start off with a black pair. The simple addition of a vest top with a structured neckline keeps the silhouette streamlined and smart, creating an outfit that's appropriate for both work and weekend.

4. Sheer Top + Lace Hem Shorts + Beaded Necklace

Influencer Ingrid Fagerli Edvinsen wearing a sheer top, lace-hem shorts, thong sandals and beaded necklace.

Style Notes: If you were wondering if it was possible to incorporate black into your holiday wardrobe, let this outfit be your answer. Sheer always feels more appropariate on holiday, and the great thing is you can layer a sheer top to work with your comfort levels, whether it be over a bikini , crop top or vest, and still achieve that sexy, feminine vibe. Add a simple pair of satin lace-hem shorts like @ingridedvinsen and you've got the most stunning throw-on-and-go look.

5. Linen Mini Dress + Linen Trousers + Cord Necklace

Influencer Monikh wearing a black tunic top, black linen trousers and cord necklace.

Style Notes: Linen is a summer staple, but if you want to upgrade your collection then a black linen mini dress is all you need. It's effortlessly chic on its own, but when layered over black wide-leg linen trousers it adopts the essence of a tunic, creating a pared-back bohemian silhouette. Lean into this and pair with the boho accessory of the season: a cord necklace.
