I'm Bidding Adieu to Summer Trends—19 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Pieces Trending for Fall

There's no denying summer pieces have merit—that’s an indisputable fact. And while flip-flops, sundresses, and mini skirts are all well and good, there’s something about dressing for the fall season that hits so much harder.
Maybe it’s an ingrained nostalgia for “back-to-school” shopping that I never quite grew out of, or perhaps we simply yearn for the comforting embrace of a chunky knit. But when I add that first pair of pony hair mules, leather jacket, and/or dark-wash jeans to my cart, I'm hit with that same familiar rush.
It's for this reason that I've been positively chomping at the bit for Nordstrom's annual Anniversary Sale—a "back-to-school" sale for the most stylish adults. The mega-retailer has marked down all of fall's most elevated trends, so you can get more for much less.

Since the very first day of summer, I've been counting down the minutes—no, the seconds—until I can finally reunite with my beloved leopard print pants. And before you ask: Yes, I will be purchasing a backup pair, thank you very much.

One should always have at least 3-4 rock-solid pairs of comfy, high-impact black boots on hand come fall—that's a given. But what no one tells you is that beige boots can be just as useful for autumnal styling, if you find the right pair.

If you had "a universally-appropriate maxi dress in a luscious hue that I can wear every single season with only slight changes in accessories" on your wish list, then boy have I got some news for you!

Suede has officially reentered the conversation—and believe me, she's got staying power. This fall, virtually everyone you know will be swinging around a shoulder bag or tote in the luxurious fabrication. Avoid FOMO by shopping this JW PEI style while you can.

They might not be as flashy as some other picks on this list (read: the AllSaints leather bomber jacket), but these trousers are as dependable as they come—and, thus, worth the investment.

Every time someone wears a cord necklace, an Olsen sister gets her wings. They're unfailingly chic and give off a grungy, yet polished aesthetic few other accessories can provide.

Behold: The AllSaints leather bomber jacket, in all her glory! This beauty may be on the pricier side of Nordstrom's Anniversary sale offerings, but that just means you're getting an even bigger markdown—I'm talking almost $250 off the original price.

I've been beating the proverbial animal print drum since roughly the age of 13 and these shoes perfectly encapsulate the benefits I've long enjoyed. They're equal parts eye-grabbing and posh—and for only $50!

Consider this a loving, oh-so gentle reminder that you actually can wear a denim shirt in a business casual environment—even a business professional environment, if you play your cards right.

I've been loving resin bangles for summer, but there's something about a chunky bangle that hits different in the fall. Paired up with elegant suede and dark-wash denim, the maximalist jewelry trend just feels so luxe.

If I didn't already own exactly four different iterations of the khaki trench coat, this baby would already be in my shopping cart. But since I do, I'm choosing to pass this incredible find onto you, dear Nordstrom Anniversary Sale shopper.

My fall prediction? Chocolate, espresso, acorn, mocha—whatever you want to call it—will continue its reign of luxury. So now's the time to shop all things rich, luscious brown.

On any given day, there's roughly a 89.7 percent chance (give or take) I'm wearing at least one piece of Jenny Bird jewelry. Her statement earrings, specifically, look great with a turtleneck and a smokey terracotta eye.

Unpopular opinion: No well-rounded office wardrobe is complete without a little bit of professional-coded leather. A fitted pencil skirt in the luxurious fabric feels appropriately polished, with just a little bit of edge.

If you, too, have worn your favorite Ugg slippers into the ground, as I have, let's both take this opportunity to replace them with a new, majorly discounted pair. That way, when the first day of crisp weather finally comes around, you'll be armed and ready.

While the trend cycle chews up and spits out yet another batch of short-lived micro trends, dark-wash denim has somehow continued to evade its ruthless maw. Continuing their longevity, wide-leg indigo jeans will be one of fall's must-have essentials—yet again.

Stripes have dominated every summer trend report and, judging by the current state of my For You page, will continue to do so come fall. For summer, it was all about cabana stripes. But for fall, everyone will be living in long-sleeve tees in playful colors.
