Canada’s Submarine Program To Become Launchpad For Green Manufacturing Tech In Defence

Canada’s new submarine program could serve as a launchpad for clean manufacturing technology.

After Canada selected German shipbuilder TKMS as the preferred supplier for the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project (CPSP), clean-tech firm GH Power announced it is advancing partnership talks with the builder.

The two companies had previously signed an agreement to explore GH Power’s technology in defence and industrial operations.

Canada’s decision to start negotiations with TKMS gives both companies a chance to build on those plans, though a final commercial deal still requires government approval.

GH Power builds modular reactors that convert recycled metals and water into high-purity alumina, which is used in semiconductors, speciality ceramics, battery separators, and military hardware; clean hydrogen, which is a zero-emission fuel for industrial facilities; and thermal energy that can replace fossil fuels in heavy manufacturing.

GH Power aims to use these outputs to supply clean energy to factories, qualify advanced materials for defence, and boost local production of critical materials for Canada and its allies.

GH Power CEO David White called the TKMS selection a major milestone. He noted that the partnership lets the company test its technology in defence manufacturing while speeding up its commercial launch.

TKMS Chief Sales Officer Thomas Keupp added that sustainability is central to their plans, and that the collaboration will help build a strong industrial base in Canada.

The company could also receive funding through Canada’s Industrial and Technological Benefits program, depending on final project approvals.

Beyond the submarine project, GH Power is pursuing a public listing. It recently signed a merger agreement with Matinas BioPharma Holdings.

If approved by shareholders and regulators, the combined company will operate as GH Power International and trade on the NYSE American exchange, funding further expansion across North America and Europe.
