The Drop-Waist Trend Is a Runway Favorite—Here’s How to Make It Wearable

Not to brag, but I have a knack for predicting when a designer trend has the potential to really take off. Case in point: the drop-waist trend. After spotting Khaite’s sculptural “Lynette” dress in the brand’s Resort 2022 collection, I had a sneaky suspicion that its vintage-inspired, low-slung construction would soon become a hit—and I was right. Several seasons later during the Spring 2026 Ready-to-Wear season, labels like Sandy Liang, Ferragamo, and Jil Sander followed suit with their own fresh takes on the style.
Fast-forward to the fall 2026 shows, and it appears as though the fashion world is still captivated by the silhouette. Tory Burch embraced the shape with a billowing cherry red midi gown featuring ruched detailing, subtle pleats, and dangling fabric that created dynamic movement. Marni showcased a drop-waist skirt with two sets of belt loops that naturally elongated the waist. Meanwhile, Chanel took an innovative approach, belting a dress below the hips to create the illusion of a skirt. Matthieu Blazy demonstrated that the flapper style had range, pairing it with everything from sharp blazers to buttoned tweed jackets.

While these designers certainly championed the look as a defining fall staple, you don’t have to wait until autumn to wear it. As you cherish the last few weeks of warm summer temperatures, pair a drop-waist dress or skirt with strappy sandals and a raffia bag for a beachy feel. Then, when the cooler months roll around, layer your outfit with soft knitwear and lightweight jackets.
If you’re wondering how to incorporate the drop-waist trend into your wardrobe for this season and beyond, I’ve got you covered. Scroll on to find a range of pieces—from designer picks like Tove and Ganni to more affordable options from labels like Cos and Reformation .
