Why Even Minimalists Are Embracing the Stripe Trend

As a minimalist, I’ve been trying my best to make my pared-down outfits feel more dynamic and less boring. It’s been quite a challenge for me, especially given that I’m partial to plain neutrals and streamlined silhouettes. But I’m proud to say that I’ve managed to step outside the style box—specifically by experimenting with stripes.
While there’s nothing new about the classic pattern, I’ve been finding fresh ways to wear the look. Several weeks ago I bought a pair of breezy striped bottoms from Free People, which I’ve since worn with tube tops and toe-ring sandals for laid-back lunches and sun-kissed moments by the shore. These bold bottoms have become quite a staple in my summer wardrobe. I’ve also been eyeing a long-sleeve rugby shirt from Madewell, which will effortlessly transition into fall alongside jeans and ballet flats.

As it turns out, I’m not the only one who’s loving striped shirts and pants. It’s been nearly impossible to scroll through my Instagram and TikTok feeds without spotting at least one striped garment. Some fashion content creators are styling line-patterned tops with white jeans, gauzy linen skirts, and Bermuda shorts. Meanwhile, others are pairing two-tone trousers with barely-there tanks and halter tops.
While I’ve definitely been taking note of these outfit formulas for my own capsule wardrobe, I’ve also been pulling inspiration from the latest designer collections. On the Spring 2026 runways. Dolce & Gabbana showcased a striped button-down with matching shorts and a sultry lace-trimmed top. Months later, during the Fall 2026 season, Zimmermann gave stripes an autumnal twist, pairing billowing culottes with a plunging cable-knit sweater and loafers styled over socks.

With countless ways to wear the playful print this season and next, I’ve put together a curated edit of striped tops and pants that deserve a prime spot in every wardrobe. If you’re also looking to zhuzh things up a bit, take a break from your solid-colored clothes and consider the following pieces instead.
