At least seven explosions were heard in Dubai’s Jebel Ali industrial area within 20 minutes early Wednesday after a fire broke out at a workshop, according to Dubai authorities.

The incident took place near Jebel Ali Port and the surrounding industrial zone, a major trade and logistics centre in the United Arab Emirates. Dubai Civil Defence said the fire was brought under control and no injuries were reported.

Dubai’s Media Office said the fire started in the Dubai South area after an incident at a workshop, causing several trucks and caravans to catch fire. The vehicles are believed to have caused the explosions heard in parts of the city.

Iran’s semi-official Mehr news agency, citing Emirati officials, reported that at least seven blasts occurred over a period of 20 minutes. Iran’s state-run Press TV also reported the incident, citing local sources.

Videos shared on social media showed large clouds of black smoke rising into the night sky near a residential area. The footage could not be independently verified.

Residents in the nearby Al Furjan area told AOL News that they heard multiple loud sounds around the same time. Some residents reported hearing “at least four or five” explosions.

The cause of the incident remains unclear. Some Iraqi news outlets claimed that the explosions were linked to a missile attack launched from Yemen against the UAE, but the claims have not been verified.

Emirati authorities have not reported any evidence of an attack and have not announced an official cause beyond confirming the workshop fire.

Two people were reportedly arrested for recording the incident, according to reports citing officials.

The UAE has remained on high alert due to concerns over possible retaliatory strikes targeting US allies in the region.

Jebel Ali is one of the UAE’s most important commercial and maritime zones. Located southwest of Dubai, the area includes Jebel Ali Port, one of the world’s largest man-made harbours, and the Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza).

Jafza, established in 1985, is home to more than 11,000 companies from over 150 countries and is connected to major highways and Al Maktoum International Airport.

The area plays an important role in regional and international trade, with Jebel Ali Port serving as a key gateway for shipping and logistics operations.

NASA thermal imagery cited by Mehr indicated that a fire had broken out at a warehouse near the port used for fuel storage and transfer. This information has not been independently confirmed by Emirati authorities.

Dubai officials said the fire was extinguished and no casualties were reported. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident.
