UAE’s Foreign Ministry condemned what it called an Iranian attack on a ship linked to its state oil company, blaming Tehran for committing ‘acts of piracy’. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The incident occurred on August 8, 2026, when the carrier was crossing Hormuz. ADNOC said that one of its ships had been attacked by a missile. However, it did not give any details about the tanker, the cargo it was carrying or the damage it suffered.

The Ministry added that the act was in violation of A United Nations Security Council resolution on the freedom of navigation. The UAE has also blamed the Revolutionary Guards for targeting commercial ships and using the critical Strait of Hormuz as a tool for exerting economic pressure.

Earlier, Iranian Guards threatened to take strict action against ships crossing the Hormuz Strait if they were found to have connections with Iran’s enemies, or if they fail to comply with directives issued by the Islamic Republic.

ADNOC gave a statement, claiming it was significantly affected by the ‘unprovoked attacks’ on its personnel and assets, while striving to meet the customer demands and needs in an exceptionally challenging environment.

15 Ships belonging to the company were recently attacked by drones and missiles, all while trying to cross the Hormuz, with 3 coming under attack this week itself, leading to the death of one crew member and injury to 20 others.

ADNOC, the Abu Dhabi state oil company, is one of the world’s biggest energy producers and exporters of crude oil, natural gas and refined products.
