[OC] A short explainer on the North Atlantic warming hole: heat transport, freshening, stratification, and AMOC

I created a six-minute general-audience explainer about the North Atlantic warming hole south of Greenland.

I tried to preserve several distinctions that are often lost in popular coverage:

• Sea-surface temperature change is not the same as total ocean heat content.

• Freshening can strengthen near-surface stratification and reduce vertical mixing.

• Modeled local subsurface warming near Greenland should not be generalized to the entire subpolar North Atlantic.

• The cold blob may contain information about changing ocean heat transport, but it is not by itself proof of imminent AMOC collapse.
