Start Your Morning Off Right With This 20-Minute Strength and Stretch
Start your day off strong (literally). This quick 20-minute workout is your daily dose of full-body strength training and morning stretching all wrapped into one. It's perfect for moms in need of some extra "me time" this back-to-school season, or anyone else looking to sneak a little extra movement into their busy day. Prenatal and postpartum trainer Arielle Creager will lead you through exercises designed to get your heart rate up and build muscle. All you need is a pair of dumbbells to follow along from home.
You'll start with a functional strength training circuit that'll make even the most everyday tasks that much easier. As Creager says, "this entire workout totally applies to daily living" whether that means carrying your baby, lifting your groceries, or just walking up the stairs. Reverse lunges and squats build lower body strength, while exercises like dumbbell rows help combat bad posture and "tech neck." You'll finish off with a blast of core work (think inchworms and bicycles) before relaxing into a juicy stretch session.
As you round out your training, Creager reminds you what this strength session is all about. "This workout is for you," she says. In the midst of back-to-school chaos, this class is an opportunity to prioritize your own health and fitness. So challenge yourself, break a sweat, and don't be afraid to sink into that stretch for just a moment longer. "Doing hard things is so good for you," Creager says. "This is your time for self care."
