Westcott Launches the Photography Wagon: A Rolling Gear Cart with a Built-In Boom Arm

The team over at Westcott has announced the Photography Wagon! A collapsible rolling cart built to solve a problem most working photographers know well: hauling an entire kit in one trip, then having somewhere to actually mount it once you’re on location.

Full Details over on their website.

The wagon carries up to 175 lbs (79.4 kg) of gear and folds flat(ish) for storage between shoots, but its standout feature is a patent-pending boom pole that mounts directly to the cart. Instead of packing a separate light stand, you can wheel the wagon into position and boom a light, modifier, reflector, or backdrop straight off it — reaching up to 7’8″ (2.3 m) high and supporting up to 13 lbs (5.9 kg) of equipment. The boom pole also detaches for handheld use with a padded grip, and a reversible 1/4″-20 to 3/8″-16 spigot plus a 90° receiver give it broad compatibility with existing photo and video gear. An anti-rotation bracket is there to stop mounted equipment from twisting mid-shoot.

The cart itself weighs 24 lbs (10.9 kg) and moves on locking swivel wheels with an extendable pull handle — useful for maneuvering around a studio or set and then locking down once you’re ready to shoot. A folding tailgate extends the cargo area for oversized gear, and exterior pockets keep batteries, triggers, and other small essentials within reach rather than buried in a bag.

While this is mostly a press release, I’ve been using the photography wagon for a few weeks now, and the single biggest Issue I have with carts like this (Think beach carts) is that, for a 6’3″ tall person, the handle never allows the wheels to be far enough away from my ankles!

To demonstrate, I loaded the cart up for a quick spot of DIY (It’s a photography cart, I get it, but I didn’t have a shoot on when I wanted to demo this and thought… well, you get it… ) The Photography Wagon is just on the edge and has only clipped my ankles once! For people a more normal height, the handle is going to be just fine.

It’s aimed squarely at photographers who move gear a lot — wedding, portrait, sports, and commercial shooters doing on-location work — positioning it as both a transport solution and a mobile stand, rather than just a cart.

(Pro Tip: With the tailgate folded down, you can fit a ThinkTank Production Manager 40 in the cart!)

Availability: The Photography Wagon is up for pre-order now at $189.90 through Westcott and authorized dealers, with shipping expected in early September. Pre-order includes the wagon and the removable boom pole.
