The Problem with Variable Aperture Lenses, and the Solution

I'm here to debunk a myth: that variable aperture lenses aren't all that good. The truth is that you can solve that problem with just one simple adjustment that most photographers often forget about because they're just not paying attention to the exposure and setting the camera to a type of auto mode. I can still hear the words that have been uttered by every elder camera rep to me, "But it's a variable aperture lens, and it's not as good as a constant aperture lens." While there is some truth in that from the usability perspective and how manufacturers build lenses, the noticeable difference to humans is pretty insignificant. In fact, I'd state that it's mostly a mind game.
