What It is Like Teaching Photography to An Instagram Generation

"What shutter speed do I use to shoot on the streets?" asked a student of mine last week. This was the third time the Gen Z pupil had indirectly asked me to give her the readings of the exposure triangle for a certain genre. Despite the lectures and the assignments, I have had students who have never been more confused. And over the eight months of teaching students between the ages of 17 and 25, I have learned some of the hardest truths about the next generation of photographers.
