I don't know what 'good quality' even feels like

People keep saying that you'll be able to tell when something is good quality based on how it feels, but I find that kind of difficult. Also to avoid going for brands and go for feel, which doesn't help me in my case (I wish we could just have a solid brand that we know is good across the board).

Maybe it's obvious for other people, I've seen it mentioned that something feels like it has a weight to it, it's thicker and more structured, small details like reinforced buttons and seamlines. I don't really have an eye for that, it's kind of hard to keep pulling up my little checklist and weigh out the options when I feel like I'm going into the thrift store blind.

'Is this good? Do these buttons look okay? I think they do, but do they actually, or is that just what I'm used to? Is this blend good? How do I know it'll last?'

I was a teenager in 2015, born in 2001. I don't remember what good quality clothing feels like, because I was either a child or wasn't interested in fashion. I've kind of inherited this wading swamp of fast fashion poor quality clothing atmosphere, and it's honestly really difficult to find a single piece of good quality clothing to compare to. Even asking my mom, she just says stuff today sucks, and she DIY'd all of her clothing because she was punk-goth, so everything she has is kind of scraps of stuff pulled together like Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas, not a single uniform piece of clothing.

Do you have any different textural suggestions that can help me compare and understand? I know it's kind of grim to ask, but I really, really don't understand the frame of reference!
