Four Projectiles Strike Two Vessels Near Strait Of Hormuz, One Catches Fire

Four unknown projectiles hit two vessels about 4 nautical miles west of Khasab, Oman, on Thursday, Sept. 10, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported.

The incident happened near the Strait of Hormuz. The master of another vessel saw the projectiles hit the two vessels from about 6 nautical miles away.

UKMTO did not say who was behind the attack. It has not blamed Iran, the United States or any other party. Authorities are still investigating the incident.

The master reported seeing four projectiles hit the two vessels. One of the vessels caught fire, while the condition of the other remains unknown.

UKMTO issued a warning on Sept. 10 and advised vessels in the area to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity.

Khasab is on Oman’s Musandam Peninsula, just south of the Strait of Hormuz.

UKMTO has reported other incidents near Khasab in recent days. These included vessels being hit by unknown projectiles and explosions near ships.

On Sept. 9, UKMTO also reported several merchant vessels coming under disabling fire in the northern Arabian Gulf and Gulf of Oman.

UKMTO has not identified the two vessels or said who launched the projectiles. It also has not provided an update on the second vessel.

Authorities are investigating. Ships in the area have been advised to stay cautious and report any suspicious activity to UKMTO.
