These Are the 9 Best Firming Skincare Products I’m Investing In As a 35-Year-Old Beauty Editor

When I hit 35, it became clear I needed to shift my skincare routine away from an acne focus and toward anti-aging ingredients, specifically formulas that keep my skin fresh and as healthy as possible for the long haul. While I still keep adult acne products on deck, I’ve started incorporating the best firming skincare products to boost my complexion's youthful-looking glow and delay fine lines for as long as possible.
“A good routine can improve hydration, texture, and the overall ‘bounce’ of the skin,” says board-certified dermatologist Annette Czernik, MD, adding that, while skincare can’t “physically lift the skin,” it can give the skin a firmer appearance. To do that, you need the right ingredients to support collagen production and boost skin radiance and hydration. “Look for retinoids, peptides, antioxidants such as vitamin C, niacinamide, and hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid,” board-certified dermatologist Mona Gohara, MD, tells Marie Claire.
Supporting your skin’s natural collagen production is the key to firmer skin, but remember, skincare can’t perform miracles. Some of these skin-firming products might not be enough if you’ve recently lost a lot of weight and have sagging, loose skin; a simple product or two might not cut it (though there are plenty of GLP-1 skincare recs you can try). And while certain active ingredients like antioxidants and ceramides can support skin firmness, elasticity, and overall skin health, Dr. Gohara warns, “No cream is a facelift in a jar.” That said, if you’re looking to prevent fine lines and loss of skin elasticity, these are the best firming skincare products you want to try.

Best Firming Skincare Overall

The formula has everything. Niacinamide to brighten and strengthen the skin barrier? Check. Amino acids, peptides, and antioxidants to help support collagen production and hydrate the skin? Check. AHAs to help exfoliate without irritation? Check. This DRx BioRejuvenation Serum is full of ingredients to help keep your skin firm and healthy. It has a light, lotion-like texture that absorbs easily and layers well with other products in my routine.
Review: “What surprised me most was the difference around my jawline and neck. My skin feels tighter and looks more sculpted without feeling dry or uncomfortable. After using it consistently, my complexion also looks healthier and more revitalized. Definitely something I'll keep in my skincare routine.” — Dennis Gross
Best Firming Retinol Serum

Retinoids, which speed up skin turnover, are a key part of any firming or anti-aging routine, and Dr. Gohora recommends this K-beauty serum as a strong over-the-counter option. “Retinol supports collagen and cellular turnover, while niacinamide helps reinforce the skin barrier and improve uneven tone,” she explains. “It is a smart pairing because the retinol does the remodeling while the niacinamide helps keep the barrier steady.” (Bonus tip: If you’re new to retinol, start by using just two to three nights a week and increasing over time.)
Review: “This product works really well and doesn't dry out my skin. This has now become a staple in my face care routine! Definitely would recommend!” — Anua
Best Firming Peptide Serum

The SkinCeuticals P-TIOX Anti-Wrinkle Peptide Serum, previously named Marie Claire’s Best Peptide Serum Overall, is a sophisticated serum that combines peptides with active exfoliants and niacinamide for a well-rounded, firming skincare step. It’s meant to lessen the appearance of expression lines—smile lines, forehead wrinkles, and other fine lines—while keeping skin hydrated for a plumping, glass-skin effect.
Review: “I love how lightweight and fast-absorbing this serum feels. My skin looks smoother, more radiant, and firmer, with fine lines appearing less noticeable. It layers well with my other skincare and leaves my skin feeling hydrated without being heavy.” — SkinCeuticals
Best Firming Vitamin C Serum

Vitamin C is a must-have ingredient in any firming skincare routine, and while there are plenty of good vitamin C serums out there, the (recently reformulated) SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic Acid Serum is by far the most beloved. The serum combines ferulic acid and pure vitamins C and E to boost collagen production and protect the skin from UV rays.
Review: “I’ve been using C E Ferulic for about 6 months, and my skin has never looked better. I was a little hesitant to start using it since it is pricey, but it is well worth what you pay for it. My skin is smoother, brighter, firmer, and my fine lines are gone. I would highly recommend this product.” — SkinCeuticals
Best Firming Moisturizer

“Retinol is doing more than temporarily plumping the skin with moisture,” explains Dr. Czernik, adding that she recommends the RoC Retinol Corexion Anti-Aging + Firming Night Face Moisturizer because of the all-star ingredient. “With consistent use, it can improve the appearance of fine lines and skin texture while helping skin look firmer over time.” The formula also includes zinc gluconate and copper gluconate to soothe the skin, plus glycolic acid to exfoliate. It also includes vitamin C to brighten and protect against sun damage, while shea butter, squalane, and glycerin help keep your skin moisturized.
Review: “This nightly cream is so awesome. After the first use, I could tell slightly, but after I used it every night, you can tell it works more and more. After 12 weeks is when you’ll see the best results. My face is firmer, radiant, and looks younger.” — RoC Skincare
Best Firming Eye Serum

The Clarins Double Serum is the stuff of legends, so when the brand released a new version just for the eyes, I jumped at the chance to try it out. The dual product features an oil-based formula and a water-based formula—both full of antioxidants, skin-brightening ingredients, and humectants—that you mix together before applying to your eye area. It not only brightens the eye area and protects against environmental stressors, but it can also target areas like smile lines and the space between your brows.
Review: “I bought this a couple of months ago. As a skin care guru having used numerous brands of eye treatment- this is the best- soothes, reducing the puffiness, hereditary dark circles - combined with the lift eye treatment- awesome anti-aging eye products to look my best!” — Clarins
Best Firming Face Oil

I’ve been using the Allies of Skin CE15 Bakuchiol Firming Oil for a few years now, and it’s never let me down. The formula is full of antioxidants, which help stop free radicals from weakening your skin's elasticity and help it stay firm. It includes rosehip seed oil and tamanu oil, which act as emollients to keep skin hydrated, as well as tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, a stable derivative of vitamin C, which helps brighten and even skin tone. The star of the show is, of course, bakuchiol, an antioxidant which can help increase collagen production.
Review: “I've been really impressed with this facial oil. It feels rich yet absorbs surprisingly well without leaving a greasy finish. My skin stays hydrated all day, looks smoother, and has a healthy glow. After a few weeks, it also feels firmer and more refreshed. It's especially great for dry or tired skin, and a little goes a long way. Definitely a luxurious addition to my skincare routine.” — Allies of Skin
Best Firming Skincare for the Neck

The star ingredient of this serum stick is encapsulated retinal—a retinoid that can help lessen the appearance of fine lines and support firmer skin—but it also contains amino acid peptides and lactic acid, both of which also help skin appear firmer and healthier. What I love about this is the serum’s stick form, which makes it super easy to apply quickly to the neck, jawline, and chest. I like to use it after I’ve done my facial skincare routine—just a few swipes and I’m good to head off to dreamland.
Review: “I’ve been using this Remedy Retinol treatment under my chin and along my neck for a few weeks, and I’m genuinely impressed with the results. The skin around the jawline can be tricky to target, but this formula hits the sweet spot—it’s effective without causing redness, peeling, or irritation. My skin feels firmer, smoother, and much more hydrated. The texture absorbs quickly without feeling greasy or heavy on the neck. It’s definitely earned a permanent spot in my nighttime routine!” — Amazon
Best Firming Body Lotion

Another recommendation from Dr. Gohara: This body retinol contains antioxidants and peptides to help support healthy skin. “Green microalgae and shiitake mushroom extracts support the proteins surrounding collagen and elastin, while caffeine, coffee seed oil, and hydrolyzed rice protein help improve the appearance of firmness, smoothness, and crepey texture,” Dr. Gohara explains.
Review: “I was skeptical, but after going through my first tube, I’m starting on my second one! This stuff really works. I tried it on my arms, but now I’ve moved to my thighs as well. I really see the difference around my knees where I was starting to see some crinkly skin, and now it’s about 3/4 gone already.” — Dermstore
Can Firming Skincare Actually Tighten Loose or Sagging Skin?
“Skincare can help prevent or slow future loss of firmness and make skin look smoother and slightly more resilient, but it cannot lift truly sagging skin,” says Dr. Gohara. “Think of skincare as maintaining the fabric, not rebuilding the scaffolding underneath it.”
Certain skincare ingredients—retinoids, peptides, and antioxidants—have been shown to help keep the skin healthy and support collagen production, elasticity, or firmness, but it’s important to remember that skincare can only do so much. “Expect gradual improvements in hydration, texture, fine lines, and the appearance of mild crepiness,” she says. “Not a dramatic lift.” So, if you have visibly sagging or loose skin, whether from aging or significant weight loss, you might need to look beyond skincare.
Using firming products without sunscreen is like filling a bucket with a hole in the bottom.
Dr. Mona Gohara
Dr. Gohara also warns against products touting topical collagen as a way to counteract collagen loss in the skin. “Collagen molecules are generally too large to replace lost collagen deep in the skin,” she notes. “They may moisturize and temporarily plump the surface, but they do not rebuild the skin’s internal mattress.”
Finally, remember: The best firming skincare is nothing without good UV protection, so you’ll want to add a face sunscreen (and body sunscreen depending on your outfit!) to your routine, too. “Sunscreen is nonnegotiable,” says Dr. Gohara. “UV exposure is one of the greatest accelerators of collagen loss, so using firming products without sunscreen is like filling a bucket with a hole in the bottom.”
What Causes Skin to Lose Firmness and Elasticity?
Many factors contribute to a loss of firmness and elasticity in the skin, but Dr. Gohara likes to focus on what she calls “the rule of S’s: sun, smoking, stress, smog, sugar, and someone in your family—meaning genetics.” All of these things contribute to a loss of firmness as we age. “Sun and smog create free radicals that damage collagen and elastin,” she explains. “Smoking reduces blood flow and accelerates collagen breakdown. Chronic stress can drive inflammation, while excess sugar attaches to collagen through a process called glycation, making those fibers stiffer and less functional.”
Age, of course, also comes into play. “A big part of skin firmness comes from collagen and elastin, which provide structure and flexibility,” explains Dr. Czernik. “As we age, the body gradually produces less collagen, while existing collagen becomes more fragmented and damaged.” Dr. Gohara says. “The cells that manufacture collagen and elastin become less productive, while the enzymes that break these proteins down become more active,” she explains, adding that a decline in estrogen can also lead to collagen loss. “Facial fat pads also shrink and shift, ligaments loosen, and bone structure changes,” she adds. “That is why sagging is not simply a ‘skin problem.’ The entire support system evolves.”
