The Essential Layer: Finding Your Perfect Middle Ground

What are y’all wearing over your T-shirts under your jackets and coats? Something you can dress up or down, something that’s not awkward under standard length outerwear, and something warm but not too warm. What are the Goldilocks pieces in your closets?

I’m looking for inspiration as this is the part of my wardrobe that just isn’t doing it for me right now. Everything either reads super casual (even a collared sweatshirt with nice jeans), or nicer/more librarian (traditional cardigan or longer casual knit open front sweater).

I’ve gotten my husband a quarter zip for like the last 4 holidays, and it’s cause they work! He can wear it with a T-shirt or he can dress it up with a collared shirt underneath. It’s not too much bulk, it’s versatile, it can be your outer layer in these transitional months but a middle layer as it gets colder.

Is there something out there that fits this weird interstitial space? Or is this like pockets, where men can just have it all?
